Shots are the pits

Miles just got his first set of vaccines. I got the lucky job of holding him while they poked him with three needles. After the first one, he started to cry hard. Then the second one came and his whole head turned bright red. That's when the person administering the shots said "This last one is the worst." It was probably the most pain Miles has ever experienced. At least he is sleeping now.

I dread taking my kids for shots!! It's especially hard with a baby because they don't understand why mommy is letting this stranger poke them! At least it's over quick and their long-term memory isn't quite developed yet :)

That doesn't sound like fun at all. For you or Miles.

Oh, shots are not fun. Though I always dreaded the after effects. Anna almost always got a fever which meant we didn't get sleep the night afterwards.

I love how the doctor makes the poor nurse administer the shots. They should come in with an executioner's mask on so the kids won't recognize them on the next visit.

The story I heard, though, is that when baby Kelly got her shots, she reached over and grabbed the syringe.

That must be why they have the parent hold baby's hands now.

Yes my strong-willed kids have received an extra prick or two from grabbing the needle...and a protective sibling has also pushed away the nurse! Ah, good times.

Next time you could recommend that 2 nurses come in and they do them at the same time. I've helped out with that bunches of times. Each person takes a leg and sticks one in at the same time. It works pretty well.

As they get older it gets harder to hold them down for multiple sticks. I've noticed at my current location that a lot of the kids start crying when the nurse comes out to get them. I feel bad for the nurse.

Leah once got a shot and gave the nurses the angriest look and then said, "Hey! You're not nice!" The nurse said that was worse than having her cry.

No fun. The doctor's always recommend Tylenol, but I've found that infants Motrin works way better.

You can look forward to the third-year well child visit...no shots, no red face and no tears for you or Miles.
