Christmas Cookies

Kelly and I were talking over the weekend how it didn't really feel like Christmastime (yes, it's one word...look it up ). I have been working all kinds of crazy hours at the office for the past few weeks and we felt like Christmas was going to pass us by. Well, I finally finished my project at work and had some free time again to spend at home.

I think it finally felt like Christmas to me yesterday (Sunday) when we visited a member of our congregation at her house. We talked about our Christmas plans, the spirit of Christmas, and how serving others brings us joy. She told us about her family in Nigeria who have absolutely nothing and how she recently sent a little bit of money to them so they could buy some rice (rice is a staple food, but it has become too expensive for most Nigerians).

I began to see how much Kelly and I have, and how little we need. An overwhelming feeling of grattitude for my warm house, my food, my job, and my family grew inside of me and it felt like Christmas.

Wintery Weekend

After a relatively mild November, winter showed up this weekend. It snowed this weekend and it has been pretty cold since. It doesn't snow that much in Seattle and when it does, it only snows a few inches. Oh, except in 2004 when we got 12-inches in the city. Anyway, Saturday night's snow shower was really pretty and we enjoyed watching the snow fall around our neighborhood.

Urban Craft Uprising

Last weekend I went to the Urban Craft Uprising held at the Seattle Center (here is the website with links from the vendors http://www.urbancraftuprising.com/). It was amazing! I was so overwhelmed by so much neat stuff that I didn't end up purchasing anything. It is not often that you find a craft fair where you like or are drawn to pretty much everything (no tea cozies from grandmother). One day, I hope to have a booth there.

What's the 411 on diapers

As Steve and I prepare for the arrival of our little mathlete, one thought keeps coming up that we should stock up on diapers and wipes. Unfortunately, having never been a mother before, I have no idea what are good brands and what brands I should stay away from.

I am asking all mothers (and fathers) what are good diapers? Are there preferences depending on if you are having a boy or a girl? Do types of wipes matter? What other household products did you find you used often but never thought to buy at the beginning?

Little Piggy

Kelly sews again. This time she made a bib for the baby. Luckily, we have a willing model in the house to show off Kelly's creations.

When did my medical file become public knowledge?

Why is it that when you are pregnant everyone feels like they are now your doctor? A guy at work told me to stop drinking water out of plastic containers because it will give me and my baby cancer. When I was at the temple, the sealer wouldn't let me kneel for long periods of time due to my situation. Today at the convenience store across the street, the clerk was shocked to find out I didn't know what brand of prenatal vitamins I was taking and told me to start drinking fish oil.
I realize that everyone is just trying to be nice and I do appreciate when I am offered a chair or someone helps carry something heavy, but I am tired of being looked at as a nothing more than a carrier. I am a person who has interests other than the child growing inside of me.
Anyway, I'm just venting.

An Historic Night

What a night it has been. Anyone who knows Kelly and me, knows that we are HUGE Obama supporters. So, we are extremely pleased by tonight's election result. I think our country finally began to repair our standing with the rest of the world.

We just elected our first African-American president and I couldn't be prouder of it. Barrack Obama will be a great leader and I am excited to see where he takes our country.
